Aside from caffeine’s brain boosting effects, coffee’s antioxidant richness helps maintain brain health. Chocolate is rich in flavonoids, a class of antioxidant that helps to improve blood flow (and thus brain health) by regulating cholesterol and lowering blood pressure.
- 2-3 lb - flank steak
- 1/2 cup - fine ground coffee
- 2 TBSP - cocoa powder
- 1 TBSP - cayenne pepper
- 1 TBSP - chili powder
- 2 TBSP - freshly ground pepper
- 1 TBSP - sunflower oil
- Sea salt
- 1 Combine coffee, cocoa, paprika, chili powder and black pepper in a bowl and mix well. Coat the flank steak with a small amount of sunflower oil, then, use the spread the dry rub marinade all over the steak, and refrigerate for 1-2 hours, or overnight. Do not add salt.
- 2 Be sure to bring the steak to room temperature before grilling. Season with sea salt, and place marinated flank steak on BBQ grills for 6 minutes (3 minutes per side). Remove and let rest for at least 15 minutes. Slice against the grain, and serve with an avocado salad and a side of seasonal steamed greens or sweet potato.
