Homocysteine is an amino acid, but elevated levels have been linked to dementia (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/12849121/), heart disease and stroke (https://www.health.harvard.edu/staying-healthy/in_brief_b_vitamins_and_homocysteine).
